Installing the product update ensures that you have the latest firmware installed, and that all Web Services apps are current. This update resolves missing information that is on the Embedded Web Server. Install this update if your printer is:

  • Unable to enable ePrint
  • Unable to detect the printer in a network environment during installation
  • Unable to locate fax drivers when connected via USB

Methods for Installing the Product Update:

  1. Install the update through the product control panel (Recommended)
  2. Download the update this page

For easier use, HP recommends installing the update through the product control panel instead of downloading the update from this page. If your product is connected though a network (Wireless or Ethernet), you can easily and quickly install the update directly through the product control panel. You must have an active Internet connection.
If you choose to download the update from this page, your product must be connected through a USB connection.

    Follow these steps to install the update through the product control panel:
  1. On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow to display the second navigation screen.
  2. Touch Setup, and then touch the Down Arrow to display the Web Services Setup Menu.
  3. Touch Web Services Setup.
  4. Touch the Down Arrow to select Product Updates.
  5. Touch Check for Product Updates.

Before starting the upgrade:

  • The HP Officejet Pro 8500A Firmware flashing (upgrade) requires a wired network or a USB connection.
  • DO NOT upgrade the printer firmware in a wirelessly connected printer.
  • If the computer has a firewall installed or enabled, it may block the Firmware Download Utility from accessing the printer. Therefore, please remember to temporarily disable any firewall that may be on the computer, including firewalls such as Microsoft Windows XP Firewall, Sygate, Zone Alarm or BlackICE.

  1. Switch on the HP Officejet Pro 8500A series printer and wait until the printer is READY. [The Power light should be on].
  2. Download and run the following application from your computer: HP_Officejet_Pro_8500_A910n_ productname_patch.exe
